I wouldn’t really say so.
But I’ve been having some great ‘coincidences’ happen to me lately.
Tonight as I was heading back home from this weeks Christmas extravaganza in LA and Huntington Beach I got pulled over on the 215 freeway in Moreno Valley.
The cop was cool, “I pulled you over because your registration is overdue.” And he didn’t say it like a jerk either.
I was well aware of it so I innocently said “Yeah, I know it is” with a look that said “I’m not gonna hide it, I understand if you need to bust me on this one. You’re just doing your job, and I appreciate that you pulled me over”.
“It’s been out since April, that’s way overdue man” he said.
I nodded in agreement.
“You have your license, registration and insurance?”
I started to rummage through the thick stack of papers in my glove box and we both began to scan for what would be the overdue registration card.
Right on top was an uncashed check from last month that I completely forgot about $125. Bonus!
“That’s it right there!” he said, and I handed him the registration and insurance card. “I’ll be right back”.
About 7 minutes later he came back and handed me a…. FIX IT TICKET and let me know that my car could get reposessed if I didn’t get it taken care of. Good to know! I should have tipped him for the legal advice.
All happy as heck! I thanked the hell out of him. He probably felt like a real nice guy, and he was!
He could have easily written me some big old ticket. But I guess I got “LUCKY” instead.
So a fix it ticket and an extra $125.
All for being a happy boy and talking to the man like he was just that… THE MAN!
So if you ever get pulled over, keep your cool, smile – but not too big, talk with respect, admit your faults, be a happy boy, and say a quick prayer.
How would you want to be talked to if you were a cop?
